English grade 9
Students learn advanced grammar, critical thinking, and writing skills necessary for types of writing students will need later in high school and college. Ideal for students who will enroll in AP or IB courses. The course also emphasizes reading comprehension and writing fundamentals necessary to start preparing for the SAT.
English Grade 10
Classes emphasize integrated reading, writing, and vocabulary building. Core topics are: reading comprehension approaches and strategies, grammar fundamentals, vocabulary, and essay writing. Each lesson integrates reading passages, grammar exercises, vocabulary, and essay drafting and revision. Students learn that good writing requires revision.
English Grade 11

English Grade 3
Students learn the fundamental skills of writing, reading comprehension, and building a rich vocabulary. Each lesson provides students with challenging materials designed to help them build the learning strategies they will need in elementary and middle school to prepare them to succeed in high school.
English Grade 4

English Grade 5
Students continue their preparation to transition to middle school by developing more advanced reading skills, including understanding how context affects the meaning of more advanced words. Students learn basic principles of word choice for precision, concision, and rhetoric. Writing instruction emphasizes major types of formal English essays.
English Grade 6
Grade 6 instruction focuses on helping students make the critical transition from elementary to middle school. Classes emphasize reading, writing, vocabulary building, and essay drafting and revision. Core topics are reading comprehension strategies; advanced grammar concepts; extensive vocabulary instruction; and strategies for writing essays.
English Grade 7
Class prepares students to excel in English reading and writing in Grade 7. In addition to enabling students to apply advanced drafting and revision skills, instruction gives students the skills essential for writing timed essays. Students learn advanced grammar skills, essay organization, word choice strategies, and skills for timed essays.
English Grade 8
This course prepares students for the reading comprehension and writing coursework that will have in high school. This is an English accelerated writing course to fill gaps in students’ learning. Instruction gives students the grammar and writing foundations they will need when beginning to prepare for the PSAT/SAT and ACT.
Thomas Jefferson (TJHSST) Problem-Solving Essay Writing (Once a week)
Once-a-week focused test and review session. Classes are two hours and focus on both the math required solve problems – algebra and geometry – and fundamental principles of writing effective competitive essays. Students write a timed math or science problem-solving essay, and timed personal attribute answers every week. Students also receive analysis of responses and test-taking coaching in hour-long teaching session. $700 is fee for 11 weeks. Schedule: (11 weeks; no class on Labor Day), 3:00 pm EDT to 6:00 pm EDT Advanced payment is mandatory. in-depth instruction in writing both math and science problem-solving essays. The course gives students challenging math and science problems to analyze and solve. In addition, students receive teaching about how to write answers in response to questions about personal experiences and attributes.
Loudoun Academies Admissions Essay Preparation
Intensive instruction prepares students to write exceptional essays for the Loudoun Academies’ admission test. Essay topics cover range of critical thinking, technical, social, and ethical issues essential to exam success. The instructor has nine years of experience preparing students to write exceptional timed essays for Loudoun Academies.
SAT Prep: Reading and Writing Test
Four-day-per-week schedule where students focus on reading and writing topics critical to high scores on the Reading, Writing, and Language tests. The first day coaches test-taking strategies for science reading passages; the second, classic fiction passages; the third, original documents; and the fourth, grammar, editing, and writing passages.
SAT Prep: Math Test
Once per week on weekend schedule when students focus on critical topics to score highly on SAT no-calculator and calculator math tests. Classes meet on Saturday or Sunday for 1.5 hours each day. These on-line classes are limited to 4-5 students each.
